He communicates through chirps, beeps and whistles. His famous companion, the protocol droid C-3PO. R2D2 carried the technical readouts of the Death Star, given to him by Princess Leia. With the help of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker, he delivered the plans to the Rebels. Using the technical readouts, Luke and other members of the Rebelion destroyed the 1st Death Star.
