What we know about his character

Update May 16, 1998

Darth Maul
Completely embracing the dark side of the Force, Darth Maul is a fearsome Sith apprentice. His constant training, both in combat techniques and in the dark powers of the Force, makes him a formidable figure and a power to be reckoned with. His horned head, face tattoos and gleaming yellow eyes strike terror in the heart of all but the most focused opponents.
Since his master has great confidence in the pupil's abilities, Darth Maul is often entrusted with delicate missions. In return, Maul is absolutely loyal to his master, and devotes his utmost efforts to achieving the objectives laid out by his mentor. Although he closely follows traditions and protocols, Darth Maul is never one to blend in: he has built a double-bladed lightsaber, and trained himself to wield the unusual weapon with deadly accuracy. Only through his complete dedication to the way of the Sith was Maul able to bring the dark side of the Force to his aid in mastering such a dangerous combat skill.
On his own, Darth Maul represents a real threat to the delicate balance of the Galactic Republic, which the Jedi Council strives to preserve. But with the powers of the master and the apprentice combined, there is no telling what terrible conflict awaits the Jedi.

This Bio came from the back packaging of the episode 1 action figures. Along with the bios are Commtech chip lines that the figures say to one another. Only time will tell if the bios and the lines are real. These were posted on SirSteve's Star War Guide.

"Evil personifies, Darth Maul has been ordered to destroy Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi assigned to protect Queen Amidala."
Commtech: "If the trace was correct, I will find them quickly, Master." And "At last we will have revenge."

Update February 14, 1999
In the February 1999 issue of Vanity Fair, Lucasfilms has confirmed the name Dath Maul.

I think everyone that I know wants to know more about Darth Maul then any other character in the upcoming film. We just have a few things that have been floating around the net. For instance the picture up above appeared in a French Premiere Magazine. And this is just a rumor of what Darth Maul might look like.

Is this Darth Maul?

The following that was posted on The Force Net a long time ago (no jokes please). It is a detail description of Darth Maul. This might be a spoiler for some people, so highlight it if you want to know what he looks like.

"Unnamed Source: 1/3/98 - Well, we finally got an accurate description of the elusive Darth Maul from one of our spies who saw Ray Park in costume. The description checks out with our other sources. This character will definitely make an interesting baddie!

Ray Park has his face painted black with a red fire pattern on it, small 1" ivory colored horns are protruding from his skull. He wears low cut black boots, black trousers, black gloves and a black robe that he often wears with the hood up. He carries an orange/red double ended lightsabre that can extend one end only if required. He also wears contact lenses that have black pupils with a fire pattern in them, yellow around the pupil spreading out to red flames. "

About Ray Park

Ray Park is also as mysterious as the character he plays as. No one has gotten an interview with him. And the Internet Movie Database has Episode 1 to be the only film he has ever made. So maybe Ray Park might be a stun man, or an extra like David Powers (he played Darth Vader)? But then why would he be higher in the credits then other extras? I assume we will know about Ray Park the sooner the films are released.
